Tolerance
I heard a webinar recently and was struck by the topic. The speaker was talking about educating children with some of the most challenging behaviors. His premise is that all children can be successful given the right environment. He mentioned that 80% of educating children is tolerance. Tolerance, how much we can handle without it bugging us. I was amazed by the simplicity of this concept. As parents of children with special needs, we need an amazing level of tolerance. Not only for the obstacles that the disability poses but also for people who are unaware of what our child has challenges. Some disabilities, manifest physically. Others, like Autism are invisible disabilities. Our children look like other kids, but often act years younger than they are. It is for those people in my life that I need to show the highest level of tolerance. Tolerance, is the bridge for us to have others accept our children and see how amazing they really are.
